PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of obtaining good output images stably for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus uses a light source of a light emission wavelength of 380 to 450 nm as an exposure means. The total film thickness of the electrophotographic photoreceptor is≤20μm and the photoreceptor has a surface protective layer of a film thickness 1 to 10μm. The photoreceptor is so constituted that the average value of the diameter at 1/e<SP>2</SP>of the peak intensity of the amount of light of the optical system attains≤40μm. Also, it is preferable that the product of the area at 1/e<SP>2</SP>of the peak intensity of a laser spot and the film thickness of the photoreceptor is more adequately≤20,000μm<SP>3</SP>and further the mean circularity of toner particle is≥0.94 to≤0.965.
