A security paper for a thermal printer has a multi layer construction which is difficult to copy. The paper incorporates a security print layer (6), a front protective layer (5) and a backing layer (3). The layers also include thermal upper (7) and lower (8) layers and a support layer (9). The back (10) of the paper can also be printed with security patterns.
