A first buckle member 70 includes a tongue 71, Fig. 3, which is insertable into a second, channel-shaped buckle member 10. Upon insertion, the forward end 73 of the tongue first engages in recesses 33 of a sliding bolt 30 and then moves the bolt, against springs 37, until the tongue can drop slightly for projections 16 on the base of member 10 to enter apertures 71a in the tongue. The bolt then springs back to the position shown in Fig. 3 to prevent the tongue moving off the projections 16, the tongue forward end being accommodated in bolt recesses 31. To release the buckle, a lever 20 is pivoted to the position shown in Fig. 4 so that lever arm 23 moves the bolt to the left thus permitting withdrawal of the tongue. Inwardly turned flanges along the upper edges of the side walls of channel 10 define a longitudinal slot, Fig. 5 (not shown), the right hand end of which is narrowed to define shoulders. To assemble member 10, a portion of lever 20 of reduced transverse dimension is slid along this slot from the left until it meets these shoulders. The bolt is then inserted into the channel from the left and is followed by a retainer member 45, which snaps over projections 17 to retain the parts in assembled position. |
