In order to recognize a particular combination of serially occurring bits transmitted over power lines, the bits are recorded 2, Fig. 1, on a magnetic drum 1, or on a tape loop, and reading heads 5, 6, 7 are so disposed relative to each other that when the combination of bits that is to be recognized is recorded 10, 11, 12, then eventually all the reading heads will simultaneously produce an output to open a gate 9.
