A video signal processing method can preferably suppress an excessively emphasized component when converting the number of scan lines of a video signal. The method includes steps of: converting the number of scan lines of a video signal, emphasizing a high region component of the converted video signal of at least vertical direction, acquiring delay signals delayed to a plurality of steps of time longer than the time required for the conversion of the number of scan lines by a delay circuit (18), selecting an appropriate delay signal from the plurality of delay signals by a comparison/selection circuit (19), detecting an excessively emphasized component by comparison between the selected delay signal and the emphasized video signal by using emphasized component detection circuits (16a, 16b), and suppressing the emphasis of the detected excessively emphasized signal component by using suppression circuits (13a, 13b). |
