A remote monitoring method using a mobile terminal is provided to diversify the functions of a mobile terminal by additionally providing a remote monitoring function for detecting/storing motion and sound in an IMT-2000 mobile terminal. In order to implement a monitoring function using a camera and a microphone installed in a video mobile terminal, the user arranges and fixes the mobile terminal at a desired area. Then, the user turns off the LCD window by converting it to a sleep mode(S301). The user activates the camera and the microphone so as to photograph the monitoring area or to record voices(S302,S303). In case that a movement is changed or a sound is detected, the image and the sound are encoded through the video codec and audio codec of the mobile terminal(S304,S305,S307). The encoded image and sound data are stored in the mobile terminal(S306,S308).
