A seat recliner apparatus (10) according to the invention controllably adjus ts the angular position of a seat back (16) relative to a seat base structure (18) and is responsive to remote actuation by an operator. The apparatus includes a driven mechanism (26) having a recliner rod (48) adapted to be connected to the seat back (16 ), a drive mechanism (24) having a motor (30) for rotating the transmission rod (32) in a first and second direction, and a housing adapted to be connected to the seat base structure. The housing (94) receives the recliner rod (48) and the transmission rod (32) for operative interconnection, whereby rotation of the transmission rod (32) in the first or second direction causes the recliner rod (48) to mo ve relative to the housing in a corresponding first and second linear direction.
