A method for automatically controlling a speaker output level in a digital TV system and a system thereof are provided to maximize a surround effect by automatically controlling an output level of each speaker by considering the position of a viewer or a spatial structure of speaker arrangement. A remote control(250) receives a sound signal output from each speaker for converting the sound signal into a digital signal. If a speaker output level automatic setting command is received from a user, a display unit(212) outputs a test signal to each speaker and compares the digital signal transmitted from the remote control with a speaker output level preliminarily set by the user so that the output of the corresponding speaker is controlled to minimize a difference between the two values.
