An indometacin preparation for external use which is excellent in use feeling and absorption, does not separate into an oil layer and an aqueous layer, and has satisfactory long-term stability. It comprises 0.1 to 3 wt.% indometacin, 25 to 50 wt.% alcohol, 0.01 to 5 wt.% gellant, 5 to 30 wt.% oily substance, 20 to 50 wt.% water, and 0.01 to 10 wt.% one or more members selected among glycerol monostearate, sorbitan monostearate, stearyl alcohol, and polyethylene glycol monostearate.
