1,221,830. Laminated spring unit. PNEUMATIQUES, CAOUTCHOUC MANUFACTURE ET PLASTIQUES KLEBERCOLOMBES. 5 July, 1968 [5 July, 1967], No. 32357/68. Heading B5N. [Also in Divisions B7 and F2] A spring unit, consisting of layers 10 of elastomeric material alternating with metal layers 11 bonded to the adjacent elastomeric layers, is wider at one end (the bottom as shown) than the other; but it is so proportioned that each elastomeric layer is of the same stiffness as the others both in (horizontal) shear and in (vertical) compression. Figs. 5 and 6 are respectively side and end elevations of one possible structure, the uniformity of stiffness from layer to layer being achieved by reason of the central aperture 14. In Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the side elevation is similar to Fig. 5 but with the central aperture terminating at the next-to-top elastomeric layer; the end elevation is rectangular, i.e. does not taper as does that of Fig. 6. In Fig. 7 (not shown) the central aperture breaks through all the layers, the resulting structure comprising two sideby-side columns inclined toward each other from bottom to top. The spring units are stated to be flexible in both shear and compression but resistant to bending. Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown, but see Division B7) depict spring units of the above described form embodied in a rail vehicle suspension. |
