PURPOSE: An automatic channel allocation method of a wireless LAN access point and its method are provided to avoid an interference or collision of a communication channel with a different wireless communication device by automatically setting a free channel not used for communication as a communication channel according to an index counter. CONSTITUTION: A CPU(110) reads a control program loaded in a RAM(120) and controls a network controller(150) and a wireless LAN controller(160). The RAM(120) stores a program used for controlling an operation of a wireless LAN AP(100) or temporarily stores a communication packet transmitted/received between the network controller(150) and the wireless LAN controller(160). A flash ROM(130) stores the control program loaded in the RAM or a system set value of an AP. A switch(140) instructs starting of searching a mobile free channel according to an input of a user. The network controller(150) controls transmission/reception of a communication packet transmitted/received between a fixed line network and the wireless LAN AP(100). The wireless LAN controller(160) controls packetization, modulation/demodulation and coding of data transmitted/received between a wireless communication device and the wireless LAN AP(100). An antenna(170) receives/transmits data from/to a wireless LAN station. A wireless LAN channel index counter(180) matches to a channel number according to a channel allocation order. A channel congestion table(190) stores a congestion degree of each channel as data.
