<p>PURPOSE: To provide a method for consistently improving water quality of agricultural drainage or small rivers of rural area by using a periphytic algae system that functions as a bio-film for providing attached media of microorganisms and maximally displays merits of filamentous attached algae having high use efficiency for underwater nutrients. CONSTITUTION: A method for improving water quality of rural communities using periphytic algae system is characterized in that wastewater of the rural communities is treated through a biological process by periphytic algae attached to the media by installing media for growing periphytic algae at agricultural drainage or small river waterways of rural area such that the media are spaced from one another in a certain distance, wherein the media is natural fiber mesh or wire mesh, wherein a flow rate of the wastewater is maintained to a range of 8 to 12 cm/sec, wherein the media is installed perpendicularly to a water flow direction, wherein before treating influent using the periphytic algae, the influent passes through marsh to obtain water quality improvement effect by the periphytic algae, wherein periphytic algae organisms harvested through the method are used as compost, wherein the periphytic algae comprise Rhizoclonium sp. or Spirogyra sp., and wherein after installing the media(3) at drainage canal or river waterway, prepared periphytic algae are slowly flown to an inlet part(1) of the waterway such that the periphytic algae are grown by being naturally attached to the media.</p> |
