PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape inspection device capable of inspecting the presence of a defect on one surface of a magnetic tape having a magnetic layer formed on another surface. SOLUTION: This magnetic tape inspection device is provided with a moving mechanism for moving a magnetic tape 10 having a magnetic layer on a surface 10a and constituted to record recording data in its longitudinal direction, and an optical inspection device. The optical inspection device is provided with an inspecting light irradiation part 6a for irradiating the backside 10b of the magnetic tape 10 with an inspecting light La, a CCD camera 6b for receiving a reflected light Lb emitted from the inspecting light irradiation part 6a and reflected on the backside 10b and outputting an optical detecting signal, and a first inspection part for inspecting the backside 10b based on the output optical detecting signal.
