PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide artificial leather which has excellent warp direction stretching characteristics in a warp direction-stretching production process which has been difficult, and has a smooth surface and a high quality, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This artificial leather produced by charging an elastic polymer into a laminated interlacement product layer comprising a≤0.6 dtex superfine fiber interlacement product layer and a stretchable woven fabric intervened in the layer and having excellent stretching characteristics has the following characteristics. The warps of the stretchable woven fabric each comprises a composite yarn comprising the false-twisted yarns of conjugated fibers produced from two or more polyesters whose one component is polytrimethylene terephthalate and the false-twisted yarns of other polyester fibers in a 100:0 to 10:90 ratio. When the composite yarns are crimped and shrunk, the laminated interlacement product is shrunk. The artificial leather has a warp direction stretching rate of≥5% under a stress of 4.9 N per 1 cm width, and a repeated stretching recovery of≥80%. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
