In an optical projection system for cine films bearing negative vesicular images, the film is guided to follow the curvature of a cylindrical mirror 4, a grating of reflecting elements 3 at the centre of curvature of mirror 4 directing light from a laterally off-set source 1 on to the film where mirror 4 returns the light through the film, only that portion of the light which is diffracted at the film being passed by elements 3 for projection by lens 7 on to a screen as a positive image. In a modification, the film incorporates a metallic reflective layer behind the imagebearing emulsion and mirror 4 is dispensed with. A double-sided film of this kind may be used. |
