PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital broadcast receiver and a digital broadcast receiving method capable of acquiring a service list from an area wherein a reception state of the receiver is advantageous and setting the reception environment. SOLUTION: A tuner 11 varies a reception frequency and receives each channel. A transport stream (TS) separation section 14 and a system control section 21 separate network information table (NIT) information from the TS of each channel. A memory 22 stores network identification (N_id) information included in the NIT and capable of being identified by each residential area. On the basis of the plurality of (N_id) information items stored in the memory 22, the residential area to which most (N_id) information items belong is particularized as a receiver installed area.
