PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it is necessary to appropriately supply and refill ink to a sub tank along with the consumption of ink by liquid droplet discharging from a head and by a recovery operation in the case when a liquid storage tank and the sub tank are used. SOLUTION: A use amount V of the ink of the sub tank 15 is detected. On the basis of comparison results of the detected use amount V with preliminarily set first reference value V1, second reference value V2 and third reference value V3 (V1<V2<V3), ink refilling is carried out at the time of head capping when V≥V1. Ink refilling is carried out between output pages when V≥V2. The sub tank is opened at least once to the air when V≥V3, and ink refilling is carried out after a negative pressure is formed.
