PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an axial damper comprising an opening position locking mechanism for locking a door or a cover at a specific opening position. SOLUTION: This axial damper D for braking the rotation of a bottomed cylindrical part 32 of a rotor 31 rotatably accommodated in a bottomed cylindrical part 12 of a housing 11, to the bottomed cylindrical part 12 of a housing 11 by shearing resistance of silicone oil 61 packed in the bottomed cylindrical part 12, is provided with the opening position locking mechanism L composed of a locking projection 17 formed on an inner peripheral face of the bottomed cylindrical part 12, and an elastic engagement projection 36 mounted on the bottomed cylindrical part 32, and having a projection 39 projecting from an outer peripheral face of the rotor 31 at a circumferential tip of an elastic piece 38 extended in the circumferential direction and engaged with the locking projection 17, and the projection 39 is moved over the locking projection 17 when the elastic piece 38 is elastically deformed when a rotating torque becomes more than a specific value, and the rotor 31 is rotated in the both directions to the bottomed cylindrical part 12.
