PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a temporary closing mechanism for a sliding door, which prevents the sliding door from bounding when closed. SOLUTION: The temporary closing mechanism is formed of a lever 14, a holder 16, and an engaging piece. The lever has both ends thereof engaged with a trigger rod 3 and a slider 11, respectively, so that they are moved in directions opposed to each other when the door is closed. The holder has one end thereof rockably supported at a front end of the slider 11, and includes an arm portion 16a which is formed at a front end thereof in an almost horizontal position under normal conditions. Then the engaging piece is arranged at a front end of the arm portion 16a so that a proximal end thereof is rockably supported, and that a distal end thereof that rotatably bears a roller is energized frontward while the center of the roller is slightly deviated from the center of a spindle at an end of the holder toward the proximal end. Thus when the sliding door is closed, by engaging the engaging piece 18 with an upper opening edge of an engaging hole 25 in a door frame, the holder 16 is rotated, and therefore the engaging piece 18 is engaged with a rear side of the engaging hole 25.
