PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method whereby an organic base material is easily made incombustible irrespective of the shape and production history of the base material; especially, to provide a method for making a wooden base material having gas permeability, adsorptivity, and humidity conditioning property incombustible without injuring these properties, by subjecting the base material to a surface processing. SOLUTION: An incombustible coating composition containing a low-softening-point glass powder and a gas-permeable binder component is provided. The incombustible coating composition is applied to a base material to make it incombustible. A base material coated with the incombustible coating composition is also provided.
