PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber which can reduce connection loss as an optical fiber which has a hole extending along the fiber axis and can reduce connection loss, an optical component, and methods for manufacturing them. SOLUTION: The optical fiber 10 is an optical fiber which has a hole H1extending along the fiber axis, and is characterized in that: a 1st areaα1as a partial area which includes one end surface 10A and extends along the fiber axis is solid; in a 2nd areaα2as another partial area which is adjacent to the 1st area and extends along the fiber axis, the internal diameter of the hole gradually decreases up to the border B between the 1st area and 2nd area so that the hole is closed at the border B; and a mode field diameter on the end surface at a wavelength 1.55μm varies from a mode field diameter of a 3rd area where the internal diameter is nearly constant along the fiber axis at a wavelength of 1.55μm.
