PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the number of accessible memory blocks from being limited to one in a sequential mode and to make all the memory blocks usable for buffer transfer in the sequential mode, thereby enhancing the efficiency of a data buffering process during printing. SOLUTION: A buffer control method is for controlling access pointers for different memory blocks used in the transfer of data buffer at a printer. A control signal circuit has read control signal circuits 500, 510 and write control signal circuits 550, 560, receives and sends a plurality of (m+n)-bit control signals, and controls the access pointers to a memory having 2<SP>m</SP>×2<SP>n</SP>pieces of registers to execute buffer transfer at the printer.
