PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head in which a property and physical properties required as a gap layer can be improved by making a composition ratio of a NiPRe alloy especially used as a gap layer appropriate. SOLUTION: The NiPRe alloy, which has excellent chemical resistance, keeps good non-magnetic state even when heated with high temperature, and can suppress element diffusion on a boundary surface to the magnetic layer, can be formed with plating, by setting a composition ratio of the NiPRe alloy used as the gap layer within a range surrounded by boundary lines A to E on a ternary diagram.
