PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine for a vehicle capable of offering a layout not causing restriction to other parts, cutting costs by reduction of a parts count and securing high pressure to a cam chain tensioner. SOLUTION: The engine is equipped with a cam chain tensioner 60 activated by pressure of lubricating oil to maintain constant behavior of a cam chain 23, lubricating oil passages 50-53 for supplying lubricating oil to cam shafts 18, 19 of a cylinder head 4 and a branch lubricating oil passage 56 branched from the lubricating oil passage 52 to supply oil pressure to a cam chain tensioner 60. The branch lubricating oil passage 56 is branched from the lubricating oil passage 52 on the upperstream side of a throttling part 55 in the lubricating oil passage 52 disposed on the upperstream part of the cylinder head 4.
