PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a general method for converting the phenyl group of a phenyl group-having organic low molecular compound. SOLUTION: This method for producing a carboxylic acid compound comprises reacting a phenyl group-having aromatic compound represented by formula (I), (II) or (III) [H1 is a heterocyclic group which may have one or more substituents; A1 is a single bond or a 1 to 4C alkylene or alkenylene group which may have one or more substituents; P2 is phenyl group which may have one or more substituents; A2 is a 2 to 4C alkylene or alkenylene group which may have one or more substituents; C1 is a cyclic hydrocarbon group (extruding phenyl group)] to obtain the carboxylic acid compound (I'), (II') or (III').
