The stamping tool (1) plastically deforms a square sheet metal workpiece (2). It has a top cylindrical tool (4) with a holder (10) for a circular-cross-section stamp (8). The workpiece rests on a flat surface (12) of a bottom tool (6) with a socket onto which the stamp may be forced, to make a circular depression in workpiece. Elongated depressions may be made by moving the tool in several steps.
