<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder for electric double layer capacitor electrode that is excellent in binding power and electrolytic solution resistance, and also to provide a composition for manufacturing electric double layer capacitor electrode containing the binder, a high-performance electrode manufactured by using the composition, and an electric double layer capacitor having the electrode. <P>SOLUTION: The binder for electric double layer capacitor electrode is composed of a copolymer (A) containing a monomer derived from the compound (a) expressed by a general formula (1) of CH<SB>2</SB>=CR<SP>1</SP>-COOR<SP>2</SP>(wherein, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>respectively denote hydrogen atoms or a methyl group and an alkyl group or cycloalkyl group) by 90-99.9 mass% and a monomer derived from a multifunctional ethylenic unsaturated compound (b) by 0.1-10 mass%.
