PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document feeder for increasing a reading efficiency by disposing a plurality of sheets of documents in a document feeding route on the downstream side of a contact lens parallel with each other at specified intervals according to a document size. SOLUTION: In this automatic document feeder 1, the plurality of sheets of documents are disposed in the document feeding route on the downstream side of the contact lens 19 parallel with each other at specified intervals according to the document size and the presence or absence of the abutting of the sheets when the documents are set to a document reading position. Accordingly, the document reading efficiency can be increased by properly disposing the plurality of sheets of the documents parallel with each other on the contact glass 19.
