PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent destruction of a FAT even in the event of such trouble as a power-off or degradation of the ability to supply power while the area of the FAT is being rewritten. SOLUTION: The sector size of an unused area 102 is set to a size accommodating all the system areas of a FAT file system FFS and used as a storage location for the backup data of FAT data. To rewrite the management information of a disk such as a FAT, the management information of a rewritten disk such as a FAT is written into the unused area 102 as a backup. After the unused area 102 is thus rewritten to secure backup data, the original normal area is rewritten. If the normal write area for the management information of a disk such as a FAT is destroyed as the disk is read, the management information of a disk such as a FAT written as the backup data is read from the unused area 102.
