PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forging method and forging equipment which are capable of an upsetting work at a low forming pressure and can prevent the buckling of a stock which may take place at the time of working. SOLUTION: The forging equipment 1A includes a fixed die 10, a guide 20 having an inserting passage 22 which inserts and holds the bar stock 5 in a state of preventing buckling and an upsetting machine 2 equipped with a punch 30. The stock 5 is fixed in the fixed die 10 in a state that one end of the stock 5 projects. The other end of the stock 5 is inserted into the inserting passage 22 of the guide 20. Then, while the stock 5 is pressed axially by the punch 30, the guide 20 is moved in a direction opposite to the move of the punch 30 without binding the whole circumferential face of the exposed portion 8 of the stock 5 which is exposed between the guide 20 and the fixed die 10 so that the length of the exposed portion 8 of the stock 5 is equal to or less than the limited buckling length at the cross-sectional area of the exposed portion 8 of the stock 5.
