The waste air is deflected in direction of flow through 180[deg], at least once along a baffle surface, and the flow speed is subsequently reduced. The deflection is along a curved surface, and this is cleaned at intervals or continuously by a film of flowing cleaning fluid. The deflected air passes through sprayed cleaning fluid. The extractor hood has a cleaning fluid spray device (5), and an air intake channel (8) defined at the front by curved surfaces (9,10). The channel has a cross section larger than its intake, and a collection channel (11) with outlet for the cleaning fluid.
