The framework (1) for a piece of furniture has tubular members (2,3) connected to an X-shaped crossing piece (4) at the center. There are further connectors at the ends. The tubular members form a St Andrew's cross arrangement with a 45 degree crossing angle. The tubular members are covered with tubular upholstery (25) in places. Rectangular cushion members (26) may be wrapped round the tubular members and may be fastened by interlocking hook and pile fastener patches (27,28). The tubular members may have a hexagonal cross-section with a wall thickness of 0.6 to 0.8 mm.
