A resin for a paste, characterized in that it is an acrylic polymer which comprises a monomer having a hydroxyl group as a polymerization component in an amount of 0.5 to 30 mass % and has a weight average molecular weight of 370,000 to 1,000,000; and a paste composition which comprises the acrylic polymer comprising a monomer having a hydroxyl group as a polymerization component, an inorganic powder, a nonionic surfactant and a solvent; a resin solution composition containing the resin for a paste which is suitable for said paste composition; and a method for manufacturing a front plate of a plasma display panel which uses said paste composition and has a black matrix. The paste composition is excellent in the printability for fine lines and can form an applied layer exhibiting good adhesion to a sheet material.
