PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lamp driving method and a device to prevent a backlight lamp from being damaged. SOLUTION: Power supply voltage provided from the outside is converted and provided to a lamp assembly 110 by a switching transistor Q1 and an invertor 120 after conversion. The temperature of the lamp is sensed by temperature sensor elements 132 and 134, and temperature signals are hereby output. The transistor Q1 is controlled by an on and off controller 160 and the fed voltage to the lamp is reduced when the temperature is within the range of specified critical temperature.
