PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrial antimicrobial agent and an industrial antimicrobial method that are effective against a large variety of microorganisms, for example, bacteria, fungi, yeast and the like with high retention of the antimicrobial effect. SOLUTION: This industrial antimicrobial agent comprises 2-bromo-2-nitro-1,3-diacetoxypropane and one chemical selected from the group consisting of 1,2-benzoisothiazoline-3-one, 2-(thiocyanomethylthio)benzothiazole, 2-n-octyl-4-iso-thiazoline-3-one, 4,5-dichloro-2-n-octyl-4-isothiazoline-3-one at such a ratio that causes synergistic effect. This antimicrobial agent contains individual effective components so that the total concentration may attain 0.5 to 500 mg/l and these components are added at the same time or separately.
