The invention relates to a compensation element (11) for positioning a fuel injection valve (2) in a cylinder head (4) of an internal combustion engine. Said compensation element is embodied in an annular manner and is arranged between a housing (14) of the fuel injection valve (2) and a wall (15) of a receiving borehole (3) of the cylinder head (4). The inventive compensation element (11) has at least two limbs (17, 19) which are supported against the fuel injection valve (2) and the cylinder head (4).
