The invention relates to the use of nanoparticles as catalysts, said nanoparticles consisting of: a metallic core containing at least one platinoid or a platinoid alloy, a first organic coating comprising molecules which are fixed to the surface of the metallic core, and a second organic coating comprising molecules which are different from those forming the first organic coating and which are grafted to the molecules of said first coating. The invention also relates to novel nanoparitlces which can be used as catalysts. The invention is suitable for devices which are used to produce electric power, particularly in fuel cells, devices which are used to detect or dose one or more chemical or biological species, particularly in sensors or multisensors, etc.
