The cooling medium, and especially carbon dioxide compressor for the air conditioning systems of motor vehicles consists of a casing (31) with a drive shaft (30) connected to a piston by a swashplate mechanism. The drive shaft is axially supported by a thrust bearing (33), the bearing face of which on the casing and/or drive shaft side is orientated in such a way that with operation of the compressor and corresponding deformation of the compressor casing the bearing face extends parallel to the rolling bodies of the radial needle bearing (32) supporting the shaft.
