METHOD FOR DISCRIMINATING VIDEO TELEPHONY TRAFFIC THROUGH ANALYSIS OF STATISTICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF FORWARD/REVERSE LINK TRAFFIC, AND METHOD FOR ENSURING QOS FOR VIDEO TELEPHONY USING THE SAME

Disclosed are a method for discriminating video telephony traffic through an analysis of statistical characteristics of forward/reverse link traffic and a method for ensuring QoS (Quality of Service) for video telephony using the same. The method can ensure the QoS for video telephony by discriminating video telephony traffic from 1xEV-DO (Evolution Data Only) traffic components within a sector by analyzing statistical characteristics of forward/reverse link traffic associated with mobile stations using a 1xEV-DO network and by improving forward-link scheduling to assign a sufficient bandwidth to the video telephony traffic even though 1xEV-DO traffic increases within the sector. Moreover, the method can ensure the QoS for video telephony with minimal software changes and without any hardware changes of a network entity because the statistical characteristics of the forward/reverse link traffic used for discriminating the video telephony service correspond to information already used in a channel card controller or radio link protocol processor.
