A water-based ink composition characterized by containing as an essential component a water-soluble high-molecular polysaccharide represented by the chemical formula 1 (general name: "Daiyutan"(in Japanese) gum) in an amount of 0.01 to 1.0 wt.% based on the ink composition; and a ball pen having the water-based ink composition packed in the ink container tube in the main body.
