A method includes writing JAVA(TM) language source code that includes a definition of a generic class, generating an instance of the generic class; and compiling the instance of the generic class into common intermediate language code executable by a runtime engine. A system operably receives input representing a generic class definition in a JAVA(TM) language, receives source code that references the generic class, compiles the source code with an instance of the generic class into common intermediate language code executable by a runtime engine.
