A slide plate (4) having a slide opening (5) that opens a through-opening is mounted inside the sliding valve housing (2) provided with this through- opening (3). The slide plate is sealed in each operating position by elastically deformable sealing rings (7a, 7a', 7b, 7b'), which are placed inside encircling grooves (6a, 6a', 6b, 6b'), and which act on both sides of the slide plate (4) while surrounding the through-opening (3). The inner edg e (8) of the slide opening (5) is, with regard to the wall thickness of the slide plate, tapered toward the center (21). This prevents the inner edge, when moving into the closed position, from being able to damage the sealing rings or push them out.
