<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication system of a bi-directional wavelength division multiplexing scheme including an economical light source having further stability for a temperature change. <P>SOLUTION: The system comprises a central office 100 including a plurality of downstream Bragg reflector lasers 111-112 for generating a plurality of downstream channels of different wavelengths, each channel being wavelength-locked to a corresponding incoherent light beam, and a multiplexer/demultiplexer 160 for multiplexing and outputting a downstream channel into a downstream optical signal and demultiplexing a received upstream optical signal into a plurality of upstream channels having mutually different wavelengths, a local office 200 including a means 224 for multiplexing the plurality of received upstream channels into upstream optical signals and outputting the signals to the central office 100 and for demultiplexing upstream wideband light beam into a plurality of second incoherent light beams having mutually different wavelengths, and a plurality of subscriber devices 301-302 including upstream Bragg reflector lasers 331-332 for generating an upstream channel wavelength-locked to the plurality of second incoherent light beams for outputting the generated upstream channels to the local office 200. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
