<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit a user and a designer to adjust luminance to desired one when a color is adjusted by using a prescribed printer profile. <P>SOLUTION: The printer profile which is previously prepared is called and image data of RGB or YMCK are converted into data of HLS space in the printer profile (RGB or YMCK profile). In HLS space, RGB (YMCK) data are decomposed into H (hue), L (luminance) and S (saturation). Luminance L in H, L and M is adjusted by an outer operation. Luminance adjustment is divided into γ adjustment, adjustment by a parallel straight line and correction by a spline curve. Three processings are integrated and luminance L' after adjustment is set. When luminance adjustment is terminated, luminance L' after adjustment, the hue and saturation, which are converted into data of HLS space, are integrated.
