<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an emission control system of an internal combustion engine, in which the oxidation ability possessed by an emission control catalyst is surely estimated to make the temperature of the emission control catalyst surely reach a target temperature, and suppress the supplied fuel into the air from emitting. <P>SOLUTION: The emission control system of the internal combustion engine has the emission control catalyst 17, being a catalyst possessing the oxidation ability for oxidizing the material contained in the exhaust gas, and indicating characteristics which fall in the oxidation ability of the catalyst as the exhaust gas increases in NOx concentration. The oxidation ability of the emission control catalyst 17 is estimated based on NOx concentration of the exhaust gas to control the supply of the fuel into the exhaust gas purification catalyst, based on the estimated oxidation ability and NOx concentration of the exhaust gas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
