<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image compression apparatus for generating coded data which are compression-coded in different rates without completely decoding the coded data. <P>SOLUTION: An image compression apparatus is characterized by comprising a recompression function for receiving the input coded data coded in accordance with JPEG2000, temporarily storing additional information required for decoding the coded data and data of MQ codes in a memory, utilizing information which is necessary in the case of applying entropy decoding to the coded data, to specify the total data amount of the MQ codes to form coded data when compression-coding is performed again at a compression rate higher than that in the last time, reading the data of the MQ codes from the memory by only the total data amount in order from data of MQ codes which become high-order bits of a wavelet coefficient in decoding, updating the additional information into a re-compressed value, and re-forming and outputting coded data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
