PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of processing image data necessitating a coding processing and image data unnecessitating the coding processing through the same path. SOLUTION: In the case that a monochromatic read section 21a of a scanner section 21 reads monochromatic image data from an original image, a CPU 10 allows a CODEC 13 to apply coding processing to the read monochromatic image data and store the resulting data to a system memory 14. In the case that a color read section 21b of the scanner section 21 reads color image data from the original image, the CPU 10 applies no code processing to the read color image and stores the data to the system memory 14 by bypassing the CODEC 13.
