PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous casting mold for aluminum, a mold capable of preventing fracture due to thermal shock during the use by improving thermal shock resistance of silicon nitride based ceramics. SOLUTION: This is a hollow cylindrical mold in which molten metal is solidified along the inner surface of the mold in the continuous casting of aluminum. A part that comes in contact with molten aluminum is made of a sintered compact having silicon nitride as the main component while thermal conductivity of the sintered compact under ordinary temperature is not less than 50 W/(m×K). Also, the sintered compact having the silicon nitride as the main component has an aluminum content of 0.2 wt% or below and an oxygen content of 5.0 wt% or below. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
