PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pencil lead together having strength, density, and writing performance as the pencil lead in a well-balanced manner, and further having such quality (strength and density) as to be equal to or more excellent than that of a lead for which natural graphite is used, to provide a method for producing the same, and to provide a carbon fine powder suitable as a loading material for the pencil lead. SOLUTION: This pencil lead contains the carbon powder which is given by finely powdering a carbon brush, especially, a waste graphite brush. The pencil lead is produced by using the carbon powder solely or together with graphite as the loading material, adding a binding material, a stabilizer, a plasticizer, a solvent, etc., thereto, kneading the materials, molding them, and calcining them at a high temperature.
