In order to protect a ship, attacking pirates are repelled by a system that produces a dazzle effect and restricts the manoeuvrability of the attacking ship (9). The latter (9) is detected by a locating system (1), the locating signals (2) are then evaluated by an automatic identification system (3) and are displayed to the ship's personnel via a monitor (4). A control switchgear device (5) is subsequently actuated either manually or automatically, said device activating one or more flashlights (7) by means of the generation of an intermittent pulsed voltage (6), in order to transmit flashlight pulses (8) or flashlight pulse blocks in the direction of an attacker (9). In addition, in order to hinder the manoeuvrability of the attacking ship (9), a net is laid or thrown out from the stern or the sides of the ship to be protected and spreads out over or under the attacking ship (9). |
